Pope Francis' health continues to improve, but he will remain in the hospital for further treatment, the Vatican announced on Tuesday (Manila time).
A recent update from the Holy See Press Office stated that the 88-year-old pontiff's clinical condition remains stable.
"The improvements recorded in previous days have been further consolidated … However, given the complexity of the Pope’s clinical picture … It will still be necessary to continue pharmacological treatment in a hospital setting," the Vatican stated.
Furthermore, it was noted that the improvements observed in previous days had been further solidified, supported by blood tests, clinical results, and the Pope’s favorable response to medication.
In light of this, the doctors have lifted their guarded prognosis. However, considering the complexity of the Pope's condition and the severe infection he faced upon admission, he will require continued pharmacological treatment in the hospital for some time.
Meanwhile, the Holy Father joined the Spiritual Exercises through a video link from the Paul VI Hall. He was also able to receive the Eucharist and spent a moment in prayer in the chapel of his private apartment.
He also took part in the Curia's Spiritual Exercises, attending them remotely via a video link.
The Pope was admitted to Rome's Gemelli Hospital on February 14, where he was diagnosed with bilateral pneumonia.
Previously, it was noted that the Pope is undergoing respiratory and motor physiotherapy and following a prescribed diet that now includes solid foods.
