

Amid the increased incidents of vote-buying and the gun and liquor ban violations during the 2025 national and local elections, the Philippine National Police (PNP) announced the midterm elections remained “generally peaceful.”
PNP Public Information Chief PCol. Randulf Tuaño announced on Friday, May 16, during a news conference, that there was a 79.16% increase in vote-buying this election.
RH 52 Edniel Parrosa reported that this equated to an increase of 43 incidents this 2025, from the 24 cases recorded during the 2023 Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections (BSKE).
Moreover, 64 were arrested for violating the liquor ban. The data gathered from the National Election Monitoring and Action Center (NEMAC) indicated there was a 31.25% increase this year, compared to the 48 incidents recorded in 2023.
Meanwhile, 3,145 individuals were arrested for violating the gun ban, a 72.14% increase compared to the 2023 data of 1,827.
