

Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) Sec. Benhur Abalos allayed the concerns of the public after a series of ambushes targeting the lives of local government officials.
"Huwag kayong mag-alala on top ang PNP (Philippine National Police) dito," Abalos said on Tuesday, February 28, during DZRH's Dos Por Dos.
On February 17, Lanao Del Sur Gov. Mamintal Alonto Adiong Jr. suffered injuries, while three of his security personnel perished during an ambush in the municipality of Maguing.
Just days after, on February 19, armed assailants ambushed the vehicle carrying Aparri, Cagayan vice mayor Rommel Alameda and five others in Bagabag, Nueva Vizcaya.
The attack resulted to the death of Alameda, and his five companions.
On Wednesday, February 22, Datu Montawal, Maguindanao Del Sur Ohto Caumbo Montawal suffered injuries after two suspects opened fire at the vehicle carrying the local chief executive in Pasay City.
Abalos said that the police will soon wrap up the Adiong ambush case.
PCol. Redrico Maranan, chief of the PNP - Public Information Office, earlier said that one of the five suspects in the attack on Adion died during a hot pursuit operation.
"Yung dalawang kaso (Alameda and Montawal ambush cases) ay talagang masusing pinagtra-trabahuhan ng ating pulis, tinitignan ang testigo at forensics," Abalos assured.
