The Philippine National Police (PNP) is eyeing 4,344 areas of concern for the upcoming Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections (BSKE) to be conducted on Oct. 30.
PNP deputy chief for operations Lt. Gen. Michael John Dubria said 27 are being considered areas of grave concern or under the red category, which he did not identify.
Based on previous polls, areas of grave concern were placed under the control of the Commission on Elections (Comelec) due to possible violence and intense political rivalry.
The PNP chief said 232 areas may be classified under the orange category, or areas of immediate concern such as Armed rebel organizations.
Up to 4,085 are in the yellow category, or areas of concern.
In the previous two elections, yellow areas reported election-related events aside from the potential existence of armed groups and fierce political rivalries.
Areas that are unimportant or in the green category number up to 37,683.
According to Duria, the numbers were based on earlier elections. He declared that the Comelec would review the list before approving it.
Meanwhile, PNP Chief General Benjamin Acorda said in a DZRH interview yesterday that they are currently assigning personnel to be deployed in particular areas.
