The Philippine National Police (PNP) has initiated the implementation of police personnel deployment in anticipation of the upcoming Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan elections in October.

In an interview with DZRH, PNP chief General Benjamin Acorda revealed that they are currently in the process of selecting which officers will be reassigned.

"As of now po, medyo matindihan na 'yung preparasyon natin. Ang pinakatututukan natin na medyo malapit na is 'yung bawal na pong maglipat," he stated.

This measure is being undertaken to ensure that the police officer's involvement in the electoral process does not influence their family members or friends who are running for office.

"We are now identifying our personnel na dapat nang malipat para hindi maka-impluwensya [at] hindi masabing 'yung ating kapulisan who are assigned in certain localities ay may mga kamag-anak o may kaibigan," he added.

General Acorda further conveyed that their efforts to apprehend individuals on the "most wanted" list, particularly those affiliated with gun-for-hire groups, are ongoing.

"At 'yung isa pa ay 'yung mga nagpapa-employ na maging [gun for hire] kung saan nagagamit ang ating uniporme at badge," he emphasized.

The Commission on Elections (COMELEC) earlier said that it has completed 95% of the preparations for the 2023 barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections (BSKE) on October 30.
