The Director of the Philippine National Police (PNP) Anti-Kidnapping Group, Colonel Elmer Ragay, has been temporarily removed from his position following the recent kidnapping incident involving a Chinese national in Taguig.
In a memorandum signed by PNP Chief General Rommel Francisco Marbil, Ragay's relief from his post took effect on February 28.
DZRH reporter Edniel Parrosa's initial report stated that the relief order is connected to the abduction of a Chinese national in Taguig.
The relief was recommended by the PNP's Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG), citing concerns regarding the lack of arrests made by Ragay’s unit when the 14-year-old student was rescued in Parañaque on the evening of February 25.
On February 20, the Chinese national was reportedly abducted by fellow Chinese nationals.
Public Information Chief PCol. Randulf Tuaño said that the kidnapping was related to the victim's father's involvement in illegal Philippine Offshore Gaming Operations before he became a "big-time e-seller."
The PNP is continuing its investigation into the kidnapping incident.
