The Philippine National Police (PNP) has announced the replacement of two head officers in the Explosives and Ordinance Disposal–K9 (EOD-K9) Group following reactions from netizens.
In a report by RH Edniel Parrosa, PNP Chief General Nicolas Torre III revealed on Monday, August 8, that the leadership change was prompted by concerns over the condition of a viral K9 dog named ‘Kobe,’ which many netizens tagged as ‘malnourished.’
The PNP Chief also expressed his support for the group as they play a vital role in the operations of the PNP.
“Sinisuportahan natin ang K9, sila ay vital part sa operations ng PNP,” he said.
Torre further clarified the distinction between working dogs and pet dogs, noting that working dogs undergo extensive training.
In the meantime, the viral K9 dog 'Kobe' has been receiving support from animal welfare groups and individuals. He will undergo rehabilitation before being redeployed.
