The Philippine National Police Anti-Cybercime Group (PNP-ACG) warned the public against 'spoofing scams'.
"If you receive a message with links pretending to be from a bank or financial institution, it is likely a spoofing scam," said PCol. Vina Guzman, officer in charge of the PNP-ACG, on Friday, November 8, in a statement.
PNP-ACG cautioned the public about text scams that merge with legitimate message thread, which makes it difficult for account holders to distinguish the genuine messages from the fradulent ones.
"In this type of scam, cybercriminals fake an email address, phone number, or website to make it look like it is from a trusted source. They use malicious software to make the message appear real," Guzman stressed.
Guzman reminded the public to never click on suspicious links, and alway verifty transactions directly from the banks or financial institutions.
"Remember: think before you click to avoid falling victim to text scams," Guzman said.
