The Philippine National Police Anti-Cybercrime Group (PNP-ACG) is now focused on tracking down syndicates allegedly behind online scams and fraud as the Christmas season approaches.
PNP Chief PGen. Rommel Francisco Marbil said he directed the ACG to stay on high alert as online transactions are expected to rise this holiday season.
Marbil further urged the public to be careful when transferring large amounts of money or to hold off on such transactions and to avoid clicking suspicious links.
Even with the PNP-ACG's active operations, Marbil mentioned that public awareness remains vital to prevent additional cases and safeguard themselves from scams.
The ACG issued the warning despite recently reporting a decline in cybercrime incidents this 2024. From 4,354 cases recorded in the early part of the year, the unit logged only 3,704 cases from July to September.
