Former Department of Agriculture (DA) Secretary Manny Piñol called the appointment of President-elect Ferdinand 'Bongbong' Marcos Jr. as the DA secretary a "brilliant move."
“Meron akong description diyan, English nga lang, 'a brilliant move'," Piñol said in an interview with the DZRH program DosPorDos on Tuesday, June 21.
Piñol further explained that the agricultural problem in the country is underrated and unrecognized as a component of governance.
He then expressed his delight when Marcos took the responsibility for overseeing the food security program of our country.
Piñol added that if the DA secretary is the president, no one would have the guts to block his budget proposal which has always been the problem of the DA where their budget proposal would go through so many revisions they would end up with a little budget.
“Sa pagkat alam mo naging problem ng agrikultura for so long, masyadong underated at masyadong unrecognized as an important component of governance. Kaya nga ako'y tuwang-tuwa nung malaman ko na inako na ni Pangulong Bongbong Marcos yung pamumuno sa food security program ng ating bansa. Sa pagkat sino pang magaling na lalaki ang haharang sa kanyang budget proposal and that's has always been the problem with the DA even when I was secretary," said Piñol.
"Mag-aanounce si Pangulong Duterte na 'Bigyan nyo ng 300 bilyon si Manny para magawa niya mga proyekto niya.' eh kami naman gagawan kami ng budget proposal, 300 bilyon, dadaan sa DBCC, kinatay, dadaan sa kongreso, kinatay, dadaan sa senado kinatay, naiwan sa amin gutay-gutay, yung 300 bilyon, 50 bilyon nalang," he added.
Marcos on Monday vowed that his administration would focus on and prepare for the looming increase in food prices with the hope of counteracting some of the increases in prices.
