The Department of Agriculture (DA) is planning to implement a maximum suggested retail price (MSRP) for chicken and eggs.

Agriculture Secretary Francisco Tiu Laurel Jr. stated that the measure aims to prevent product prices from rising beyond reasonable levels in the market.

Based on the agency's monitoring, the current price of eggs is between P6 and P8 per piece, which is lower than the previously reported price of P10 to P12 per piece.

However, Laurel clarified that this will not be immediately implemented, as it needs to be discussed with stakeholders first to prevent any disruption in the industry.

“Well, ngayon minomonitor nating maigi ang manok. Although ang manok naman, araw-araw ang industriya ay nakikipag-usap sa atin at may rollercoaster nga ang farmgate. From P115 umaakyat ng P140, biglang babagsak ng P120, medyo malikot," said Laurel.

“Ang next concern ay ang itlog, we are looking into it. Sa ngayon may P9 na itlog, dapat nasa P7 yan,” he added.

During the joint inspection conducted by the DA and the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) at Mega-Q Mart in Cubao, Quezon City, the Secretary also announced the plan to implement an MSRP for garlic, as its price has reached P150 in Metro Manila markets.
