A new phreatic or steam-driven eruption was recorded at Taal Volcano in Batangas province, according to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) on Sunday, April 14.
Based on Phivolcs' 24-hour observation bulletin, Taal volcano had a phreatic eruption that lasted for four minutes and one volcanic tremor with 6-minute duration.
The state seismologist also reported that Taal Volcano emitted 4,709 tonnes of sulfur dioxide and produced a plume that was 1,800 meters tall.
As per Phivolcs, "upwelling of hot volcanic fluids" in Taal's main crater lake was observed in the past 24 hours, and a long-term deflation was seen in the Taal Caldera and short-term inflation of the general northern and southeastern flanks in the Taal Volcano Island.
It continuously reminds the public to avoid entering Taal Volcano Island's permanent danger zone, and advises pilots to refrain from flying close to the volcano.
