Four phreatic or steam-driven eruptions and 17 volcanic earthquakes were observed at Taal Volcano in Batangas province, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) reported on Sunday, April 21.
In its 24-hour monitoring bulletin, Phivolcs said the duration of the phreatic eruption events was two to four minutes.
The phreatic eruption events reportedly produced plumes that reached 1,200 meters tall before drifting in the southwest, west-southwest, and northwest directions.
The state seismologist also logged 17 volcanic quake at Taal volcano, including six volcanic tremors with two to four minutes long.
Taal Volcano spewed 2,104 tonnes of sulfur dioxide per day and there was an upwelling of hot volcanic fluids in its main crater lake.
Alert Level 1 remains hoisted at Taal Volcano which means it is exhibiting a low level of unrest.
Phivolcs continuously prohibits the public from entering Taal Volcano Island's permanent danger zone, and pilots from flying near the volcano.
