Teenage pregnancies declined to 5.4 percent in 2022 from 8.6 percent in 2017, the latest data from the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) showed.

Based on the results of PSA's 2022 National Demographic and Health Survey (NDHS) that was released on January 20, about 1.6 percent of the 5.4 percent are currently pregnant while 0.4 percent experienced pregnancy loss.

The agency said Filipino women aged 15 to 19 years old had the highest decline in pregnancy with 13.3 percent, followed by 18 years old women with 5.9 percent, and 17 years old women with 5.6

Meanwhile, the age group that had the lowest rate of teenage pregnancy was 16 years old with 1.7 percent, and 15 years old with 14. percent.

Northern Mindanao had the highest percentage of 15 to 19 years who have ever been pregnant with 10.9 percent.

This was followed by Central Luzon with 8.0 percent and Caraga with 7.7 percent.

According to PSA, one in every 10 women aged 15 to 19 years in the “poorest” group (10.3 percent) have ever been pregnant.

On the other hand, only 1.8 percent of women in the “wealthiest” group have ever been pregnant.

The 2022 NDHS has interviewed a total of 27,821 women aged 15 to 49 years from 30,372 households.
