Around P350,000 worth of shabu has been confiscated after a drug-sniffing Belgian Malinois of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) sniffed out the said drugs hidden in a portable speaker and shipped them to Baguio City.

Anti-narcotics agents from the Cordillera Police's Regional Drug Enforcement Unit were tipped off about a new method of smuggling drugs to the City of Pines. Police Lt. Col.

Nicomedes Olarte of RDEU-Cordillera claimed that for three days, officers staked out the forwarding-shipping hub to see who would claim a portable speaker that had been packed and placed in a black bag.

According to Olarte, criminal syndicates across the country are now employing fast-mail shipping and forwarding companies to move unlawful commodities, particularly drugs, leading police to be on the lookout for suspicious shipments.

The suspect, whose identity is being concealed until the outcome of an ongoing inquiry, told reporters that he only picked up the parcel because his wife had asked him to do so on behalf of his brother-in-law in Bulacan.

He said he had no idea the shipment included 50.9 grams of shabu, estimated by officials to be worth P350,000.

Charges are being prepared against the suspect, who has stated that he will cooperate with police to clear his name.
