The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) received an increased budget of more than P10 million from the Commission on Elections (Comelec) for the Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections (BSKE) operations.
Comelec Chairman George Garcia and Coast Guard Admiral Rey Bulay presided over the budget turnover at the PCG headquarters in Manila, joined by Comelec Commissioner Rey Bulay, who is the commissioner-in-charge for the 2023 BSKE, as well as Coast Guard Vice Admiral Rolando Punzalan.
According to Garcia, the additional budget is appropriate for the PCG because of its continued support for the Comelec in conducting the elections.
He added that Bulay initiated the allocation of the additional budget to the Coast Guard, which was approved by the Comelec en banc.
On the other hand, Abu thanked the Comelec and assured that the PCG would continuously assist in the elections and use the additional funds properly.
He said that the check from the Comelec will be handed over to their comptroller and chief logistics officer.
