President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. outlined his plans for teachers, whom he referred to as the classroom’s ‘moving force’, during his third State of the Nation Address (SONA) on Monday.
“Clearly, the quality of our education rests on the quality of our teachers,” PBBM said in his SONA speech.
Marcos described teachers as the foundation of the nation’s educational system, emphasizing plans for uplifting and upskilling educators.
The president mentioned the increase in staff that will assist teachers with various tasks in schools. This way, teachers will be able to focus more on their teaching profession.
The ‘Kabalikat sa Pagtuturo’ Act was also highlighted. This recently enacted law will provide public school teachers with an annual teaching allowance to purchase teaching materials and cover related expenses.
"Meron na rin silang Personal Accident Insurance mula sa GSIS," Marcos said.
The President then mentioned the Special Hardship Allowance which will further ease the burden for additional public school teachers covered by it, who face extreme difficulties and dangers in their daily work.
“Utang-Tagging” will no longer exist for teachers as well. Their debt will no longer be an obstacle to renewing their licenses.
PBBM reiterated that funds have been allocated for the implementation of the expanded career progression system for public school teachers, which will promote professional development and career advancement within their ranks.
"Sa sistemang ito, wala nang public school teacher ang magre-retire na Teacher 1 lamang," Marcos said earning applause from the audience.
"Sa madaling sabi, kung talagang ninanais natin na maging matagumpay ang hinahangad nating pagbangon sa larangan ng edukasyon, sila — ang ating mga guro — ang dapat nating itaguyod at patatagin," he added.
