President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. has vowed to investigate the power crisis in Siquijor and provide a lasting solution before the end of the year.

During his fourth State of the Nation Address (SONA), he emphasized that his administration is committed to ensuring the establishment and provision of all necessary facilities to prevent a recurrence of the power crisis that occurred in the province last May.

Marcos instructed the Department of Energy (DOE), the National Electrification Administration (NEA), and the Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC) to ensure that the power supply in Siquijor is fully restored and stabilized by the end of the year.

During the President’s inspection of Siquijor Island Power Corp (SIPCOR), he noted expired permits, broken generators that were causing rotational brownouts in the area, and the slow, disorganized response of the power provider.

To recap, last May, Siquijor experienced rotational brownouts, prompting the declaration of a state of calamity in the province, which significantly affected the lives of its residents.
