Malacañang has announced the members of the newly established Independent Commission for Infrastructure (ICI), created under Executive Order No. 94, Palace Press Officer Usec. Claire Castro confirmed, in a press conference at the Palace on Saturday, September 13.
Members of the Independent Commission for Infrastructure are:
- Former Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Secretary Rogelio “Babes” Singson
- SGV & Co. Country Managing Partner Rossana Fajardo
Designated as the Special Adviser
- Baguio City Mayor Benjamin “Benjie” Magalong
According to the Palace, the primary mandate of the ICI is to investigate infrastructure projects, including flood control initiatives, carried out over the past ten years since the executive order took effect.
President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr., in a media interview on Tuesday, September 9, emphasized that no politicians would be part of the probe body, describing its work as a “technical exercise.”
However, Castro clarified that Magalong’s role is as an adviser, and not as a member of the three-person commission.
"Ang magiging papel po ni Mayor Benjie Magalong ay special adviser. Hindi po siya kasama doon mismo sa three member commission at malaki ang magiging tulong din naman po kung ano ang nalalaman ni Mayor Benjie Magalong. So, bigyan natin siya ng pagkakataon. Ang pagkakataon na ito ay dapat ipakita sa taumbayan para mapagsiblihan kung ano ang interes ng taumbayan," Castro said.
The Palace stressed that the ICI will focus on reviewing the implementation, efficiency, and accountability of flood control and other major infrastructure programs across the country.
Meanwhile, Castro clarified that President will announce the appointed chairperson of the commission in the coming days.
