President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. paid tribute to the ‘unsung heroes’ for their vital role in the country's development and stability, during the National Heroes Day observance today, August 26.
"It is on a special day like this that we remember the brave souls who have come before us and reflect upon the legacy they have bequeathed to us and our beloved motherland," Marcos said in his official message on Monday.
Marcos honored the farmers and wage earners for their role in boosting the economy, and the teachers for their role in educating and shaping the minds of young people.
He also acknowledged the contributions of healthcare workers who save lives, civil servants who cater to public needs, and ordinary individuals for their kindness and concern for others.
Marcos celebrated the heroes who fought for the nation's freedom, assuring that their legacy will endure in the hearts and minds of all Filipinos.
PBBM encouraged all to take inspiration from their ancestors and fellow Filipinos in striving for the progress of a 'Bagong Pilipinas.'
The President led the National Heroes Day celebration at the Libingan ng mga Bayani in Fort Bonifacio, Taguig today, where he encouraged Filipinos to be heroes in their own ways, safeguard democracy, and defend the nation's sovereignty.
"In the spirit of shared responsibility, I call on everyone to be heroes in their own right, uphold the principles of democracy, abide by the rule of law, and defend the sovereignty," Marcos said during his speech.
National Heroes' Day, observed on the last Monday of August, commemorates the Cry of Pugad Lawin and the start of the Philippine Revolution by the Katipunan against Spanish rule in 1896.
