On Monday, President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. joined the global community in offering prayers for the recovery of Pope Francis, who has been battling double pneumonia and is reportedly in critical condition.

In a Facebook post on Monday, Marcos expressed his sadness over the current health condition of the Holy Father.

"Nakakalungkot na marinig ang malubhang karamdaman ni Pope Francis. Sa mga sandaling ito, kaisa tayo ng buong mundo sa panalangin para sa kanyang kalakasan at paggaling," Marcos said.

"Nawa’y patuloy siyang patnubayan at palakasin ng Panginoon upang magpatuloy sa kanyang misyon ng pananampalataya at pagmamahal sa sangkatauhan," he added.

The Pope has been hospitalized at Rome's Gemelli Hospital for nearly two weeks, initially due to bronchitis.

In a recent update, the Vatican announced that the Pope showed "initial, slight insufficiency" in his kidney function.

Additionally, the Pope required a transfusion of two units of blood on Saturday after experiencing a prolonged respiratory crisis similar to asthma.

In the last two years, the Pope has battled various health issues. His past struggle with pleurisy and the removal of part of his lung has made him more prone to lung infections.

Faithfuls from around the world have expressed their concerns and offered prayers for the Pope, hoping for his recovery.

Pope Francis made a pastoral and state visit to the Philippines in January 2015, where millions of Roman Catholics took part in various activities to see the Supreme Pontiff.
