PBBM extends Acorda's term as PNP chief
by Mary Antalan04 December 2023

President Ferdinand 'Bongbong' Marcos Jr. announced on Monday, Dec. 4, that Philippine National Police (PNP) Chief Police General Benjamin Acorda Jr. will continue to serve until March next year.

“I wish to inform you that, pursuant to the provisions of existing laws, your service as Chief (Police General), Philippine National Police, is hereby extended until 31 March 2024,” said Marcos in a letter to Acorda, as stated in a press released by Presidential Communications Office (PCO).

The president's announcement was made following the celebration of Acorda's 56th birthday on Sunday, Dec. 3, which was supposed to end his term as it reached the retirement age for uniformed personnel.

In line with the extension, Acorda thanked Marcos for his unwavering trust.

"I would like to express my deepest gratitude to our President Ferdinand Romualdez Marcos Jr. I am truly honored and humbled by his continued trust and confidence in my capability," the Chief said in a speech during the flag-raising ceremony in Camp Crame on Monday morning.

On April 24, Acorda was appointed as the PNP chief after former Rodolfo Azurin Jr. retired.

Acorda is the 29th chief of the PNP.
