Malacanang is eyeing on presenting to Congress its proposed national budget for 2022 at Php5.024 trillion, the highest ever in the country's history, on Monday August 23.

The said budget will be the last spending plan under President Rodrigo Roa Duterte's term next year.

"Ang proposed budget para sa susunod na taon ay nasa P5.024 trillion, ang pinakamataas na budget sa ating kasaysayan,” Presidential spokesman Harry Roque said a media briefing on Tuesday.

"Sa ngayon ay finafinalize na po at piniprint ang fiscal year 2022 National Expenditure Program o NEP at target na maisumite ito sa Kongreso sa Lunes, August 23, 2021," he continued.

According to Roque, the Department of Education (DepEd) will receive the highest amount of budget worth PHP 773 billion, followed by the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) with PHP 686 billion, the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) at PHP 250 billion, the Department of Health (DOH) at PHP 242 billion and the Department of Defense at PHP 222 billion.

Also included in the top 10 agencies that will receive the highest budget allocation are the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) at P191.4 billion, the Department of Transportation (DOTr) with P151 billion, the Agriculture Department with P103 billion, and the Labor Department with P44.9 billion.

The proposed PHP 5 trillion budget is equivalent to 22.8 percent of the country’s gross domestic product and 11.5 percent higher than last year’s P4.5 trillion budget.
