Malacañang on Monday assured that the Philippine government is undertaking coordinated efforts across key agencies to ensure the safety and welfare of overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) in the Middle East amid mounting regional tensions.
According to a report by RH Leth Narciso on DZRH's Damdaming Bayan program, the Palace said various government agencies — including the Department of Migrant Workers (DMW), the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA), and Philippine embassies — are working in unison to monitor developments on the ground and extend support to Filipino nationals affected by the security situation.
The Palace said the government is doing everything to provide immediate assistance to Filipinos caught in the tensions between Iran and Israel—United States.
Authorities have earlier advised Filipino workers in the region to stay alert and to follow advisories issued by Philippine embassies and local authorities concerning the evolving security situation.
The Presidential Communication Office (PCO) has also shared via its social media platforms the hotline numbers of OWWA and Philippine embassies in Israel, Jordan, Kuwait, Bahrain, and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) to ensure affected Filipinos can easily seek help if needed.
President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. reported late Sunday that one Filipina caregiver has been killed amid the ongoing conflict in the Middle East. The President vowed that the government will provide all necessary assistance to the bereaved family.
The heightened tensions follow reports of a “preemptive strike” by the United States and Israel against Iran, which in turn prompted Iran to launch missile attacks targeting Qatar, the UAE, Bahrain, and Kuwait — all of which host US military bases.
