The Philippines Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) on Thursday said that the authorities seized P120 million worth of suspected crystal meth or "shabu" from a South African national at the Mactan-Cebu International Airport.
On Wednesday night, the suspect named Pietro Aliquo, who flew into Cebu from Doha, Qatar, was arrested after the government personnel found suspected drugs inside his three briefcases.
Based on initial reports, custom officers spotted suspicious baggage trhough their x-ray, which led them to seek assistance from the PDEA airport interdiction unit.
In a statement, PDEA said that after a thorough checking of the three items, they discovered a total of 10 packs of suspected shabu, weighing 17.6 kilos with a street value of P120,353,200.
Initial tests showed that it was positive for dangerous drugs and has been submitted to the PDEA laboratory in Central Visayas for further chemical analysis.
The suspect will face charges after Violating Section 4 of the Republic Act No. 9165 of the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.
