Two wooden crates containing marijuana kush were intercepted by law enforcements at Clark Freeport Zone on Monday.
According to the Philippine National Police-Aviation Security Group (PNP-AVSEGROUP), the crates, which were cleverly misdeclared as ‘sofa sets’, were flagged during an X-ray inspection by the Bureau of Customs (BOC).
Upon its discovery, the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) Clark, Aviation Security Unit 3 (AVSEU 3), and other Clark-DITG members were immediately notified. Moreover, the Narcotics Detection Dog (NDD) alerted authorities on the presence of illegal substances during the paneling operation.
According to them, there were 23 transparent plastic bags containing approximately 10.406 kilograms of high-grade marijuana kush were inside the falsely labeled sofa set. The drugs originated from Bangkok, Thailand, and were estimated to be around Php17,169,900.
The seized drugs were immediately turned over to the PDEA Laboratory for further analysis. The consignee, who was located in Hermosa, Bataan, will be facing charges for violating Republic Act 9165, or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.
The inventory of the intercepted drugs was ocnducted in the presence of local officials and a representative from the Office of the City Prosecutor of Mabalacat, Pampanga.
