A total of 53 families or over 100 individuals were evacuated in Juban, Sorsogon, following the phreatic explosion of Bulusan Volcano on Sunday morning.

In a statement from the Sorsogon Provincial Information Office (PIO) 53 families or 173 individuals were evacuated to Tughan Elementary School.

Sorsogon Governor Francis Escudero also paid them a visit, according to the PIO, who donated food packs, beddings, hygiene kits, and other basic needs of evacuees.

Evacuees were mostly children, said the governor, but no one developed respiratory problems nor died because of the recent eruption.

The municipalities of Irosin and Juban were the most affected areas of Bulusan, according to the PIO, and cleaning operations in the affected areas are underway.

Escudero also said that if Bulusan does not erupt in the next two days, and once the cleaning operations are finished, they will start sending affected residents back to their homes.

"Sa ngayon, minomonitor pa rin namin ang report na magmumula sa PHIVOLCS kung mauulit ba ito o hindi," said Escudero in a media briefing.

(For now, we are monitoring the report from PHIVOLCS if this will happen again or not.)
