The Commission on Elections (Comelec) announced Tuesday that more than 188,000 people had registered to vote in the Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections (BSKE) scheduled for October 2023.
Rafael Olanio, Deputy Executive Director for Operations (DEDO) at the Comelec, reported that as of December 30, 2022, 188,129 Filipinos have submitted applications to become first-time voters.
Of the total, 101,944 voters are between the ages of 18 and 30, followed by those between the ages of 15 and 17 (60,491 voters), and those who are beyond the age of 31 (25,694 voters).
In the Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) elections, Filipinos between the ages of 15 and 17 may cast a ballot, while those between the ages of 18 and 30 for both the youth and barangay elections.
Both the national and barangay elections are open to voters who are 31 years of age and older.
Olanio reaffirmed their request for qualified people to register because the activity is coming to an end this month.
The nationwide voter registration session reopened on December 12, 2022, and it will continue through January 31, 2023.
All city/municipal offices of election officers (OEOs) accept applications Monday through Saturday beginning at 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
