Over 1,000 police personnel from the Eastern Police District (EPD) were deployed across Metro Manila on Wednesday, May 1, as part of heightened security measures to maintain order during the Labor Day celebration and the gatherings of various progressive groups.
The overall security plan was led by EPD officer-in-charge Police Brigadier General Aden T. Lagradante, who confirmed that 1,679 officers have been mobilized to secure strategic areas in the cities of Pasig, Marikina, Mandaluyong, and San Juan.
Some EPD personnel have already been positioned under the EDSA-Ortigas Flyover early in the morning.
As well as the police personnel from the Quezon City Police District (QCPD) have also been seen in the area to help strengthen security coverage.
Several police trucks, a SWAT vehicle, two fire trucks, and two ambulances from the Philippine National Police (PNP), are also visible in the area.
While no specific threats or planned disruptions have been identified, the EPD stated that their forces are prepared will send 100 police personnel to serve as a reactionary and augmentation unit to assist the Manila Police District (MPD) if needed throughout the day.
Aside from crowd control and security monitoring for Labor Day rallies and assemblies, the Lagradante has also instructed its personnel to intensify anti-criminality operations in their jurisdictions.
Officers have been reminded to strictly observe the rule of law and follow proper procedures to avoid complaints from the public.
