The Commision on Election (Comelec) has reported that more than one million aspirants from 82 provinces filed their certificates of candidacy (COCs) for the synchronized Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections (BSKE) scheduled this October.
Based on its latest data released on Saturday, the number of aspirants who filed their COCs have reached a total of 1,181,404.
Male candidates dominated this year's COC filing with 776,781 or 65.75 of the total, while female candidates registered are 404,623 or 34.25 percent of the total.
In the barangay polls, the Comelec said 85,795 individuals aspired to run for the position of barangay chairman.
In the SK polls, 75,434 individuals are hopeful for the SK chairperson position and 638,209 individuals for councilor.
The COC filing has been extended in the National Capital Region (NCR), Abra, and Ilocos Norte.
According to the Comelec's earlier advisory, aspirants in NCR and Abra can file their COCs until Monday, September 4.
Meanwhile, hopeful candidates in Ilocos Norte only have until Sunday, September 3.
The extension comes after the government suspended work and classes in the said areas last Thursday, August 31, due to the inclement weather caused by enhanced habagat, Typhoon Hanna, and Typhoon Goring.
