Presidential aspirant Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos, Jr. on Tuesday said that he will only appoint the best people in the field as his Cabinet secretaries, even if they are from opposing parties.
"Kung sila ba ay pinakamagaling sa kanilang field. Basta ang criterion that we should follow, kung sinong pinakamagaling na handang tumulong at handang magtrabaho, yan ang ating ilalagay," said Marcos on the Bakit Ikaw? DZRH Job Interview.
(If they are the best in the field. The criterion that we should follow is about who is the best and ready to help, ready to work, we will put them there.)
"In fact, kahit na sa kontra partido basta gustong tumulong at magaling sila sa kanilang trabaho, kung tatanggapin nila, tatanggapin natin sa administrasyon," he added.
(In fact, even if they are from an opposing party as long as they want to help and they are good at their jobs. If they accept it, we will accept them in our administration.)
According to Marcos, he will not appoint people just because they came from the same party or just because they supported him in his campaign for the presidency.
The same rule also applies to his wife, Louise Marcos, in the possibility of appointing her for a government position.
"Hindi ko gagawin dahil asawa ko, gagawin ko dahil may kakayahan siya," he said.
(I will not do it because she’s my wife, I will do it because she is capable.)
The former senator said that he is confident that he will not appoint a relative, a party-mate, or a campaign supporter because there are Filipinos who are good in their fields and are willing to help.
"Ang gagaling ng Pilipino at sa palagay ko maraming magagaling diyan na handang ng tumulong," he said.
(Filipinos are good and I think there are many good people who are ready to help.)
"Kaya't malakas ang kumpyansa ko na hindi tayo kailangang mag-appoint ng mga kamag-anak, dahil may utang na loob ka sa kampanya, tinulungan ka sa eleksyon, 'yung ganung klase pag-appoint," he added.
(This is why I am confident that we do not need to appoint relatives, because we owe them a debt of gratitude during the campaign, nor they helped us in the elections, that kind of appointment.)
Marcos declined to name any individual who could be a part of his Cabinet if elected, saying that it was still "premature."
