Pop star Olivia Rodrigo quickly took action to remove one of her songs from social media after it was used in a Donald Trump victory video.
Rodrigo, 21, is a dedicated activist for reproductive rights and endorsed Kamala Harris, Trump’s opponent, in the recent U.S. election.
The controversy began when the Team Trump TikTok account posted a video celebrating the election results. The video, captioned, And suddenly the words 'I'm the President-Elect' came out of my mouth…, "used Rodrigo’s 2021 song "deja vu." The choice of song seemed to acknowledge that this would be Trump’s second time winning the presidency.
Rodrigo was not pleased, commenting on the video, "Ew don’t use my sound ever again ty." Although her comment has since been removed, the song was taken down from the video, reportedly at Rodrigo’s request as the copyright holder.
Rodrigo has been involved in political causes before. In 2021, she visited the White House to promote youth vaccinations, praising President Biden and Dr. Fauci for their efforts. She emphasized the importance of talking to friends and family about getting vaccinated.
