OCTA, DOH say NCR's COVID cases already peaked
by John Dexter Tilo24 January 2022

The OCTA Research and the Department of Health (DOH) on Monday said that COVID-19 cases in National Capital Region (NCR) have already peaked after it recorded surging new cases due to the spread of the Omicron variant.

OCTA fellow Guido David told DZRH that this could be the case as the number of new infections are continuing to drop.

"Mukhang nag-peak na tayo kasi nung January 10, ito 'yung pinakamataas na bilang natin, 18,700. Ngayon kahapon, 5,400 na lang at pababa pa," he said.

(It looks like we already peaked because in January 10, we reported the highest number of cases at 18,700. Now yesterday, we only have 5,400 and it is decreasing.)

"So mukhang peak na talaga."

On Monday, Health Secretary Francis Duque III also shared the same sentiments, following observations that new cases in the capital region are decreasing.

"Lumalabas nag-peak na. Nakikita nating ilang araw nang sunod-sunod na bumababa ang kaso ng NCR at lumiliit ang porsyentong inaambag nito sa ating total caseload," he said in a media briefing.

NCR on Monday reported 5,433 new cases of COVID-19, according to OCTA Research.

David, in a later tweet, said he is expecting up to 5,000 new infections in the capital region, with up to 32,000 new cases nationwide.

"Expecting 28 to 32k new cases today January 24, 2022, I think 30k is likely. I am also expecting 4.5 to 5k in the NCR," he said in a tweet.
