The COVID-19 positivity rate in the National Capital Region (NCR) saw a slight increase from December 16 to 22, according to the independent group OCTA Research.
Dr. Guido David from the research group said on Friday that NCR’s seven-day average positivity rate from December 16 to 22 was 0.77, compared to the 0.62 from December 12 to 18.
David attributed this hike to the holidays, which saw an "increased number of social gatherings."
"This uptick in positivity rate may be dismissed as merely an effect of the holidays," said OCTA.
"On the other hand, this could also be the beginning of a change in the trend."
However, David clarified that the current figures are not yet a "clear picture" of the situation due to decreased testing during the holidays.
"Unfortunately, due to decreased testing over the holiday season, we will be unable to have a clear picture of the situation until the first week of January 2022."
"We will reevaluate the situation in 1-2 weeks."
In the meantime, David said the increase is not yet a cause for panic, but urged the public to continue observing public health standards while enjoying the holidays.
The country reported 288 new cases of COVID-19 on Thursday, bringing the number of cases to 9,251.
