The Office of Civil Defense (OCD) has expressed concern about the low electricity reserves in the Philippines, despite an adequate power supply.

In a recent meeting attended by President Ferdinand R. Marcos, Jr. and various government agencies, the OCD disclosed that the country's power reserves are thin, but there is hope for an increase once the Ilijan LNG and First Gen Power Plant resume operations.

"Although manipis sa ngayon iyong reserba pero pagdating ng June or July, it was reported July madadagdagan or mabubuhay muli iyong Ilijan LNG Power Plant at madadagdagan din ng isa pa, iyong First Gen Power Plant totaling at least additional 1,200 megawatts of additional supply," OCD undersecretary Ariel Nepomuceno said during a press briefing.

Meanwhile, the Climate and Sustainable Cities (ICSC) warned that yellow alerts may be raised across Luzon starting from April due to the increased power demand in the country.

The government is currently exploring the possibility of transitioning to renewable energy sources for a safer and more reliable power supply.
