The National Telecommunications Commission (NTC) has directed telecommunication companies to brace for the expected onslaught of Super Typhoon Henry in the country.
In a memorandum issued, NTC Commissioner Gamaliel Cordoba ordered telcos to ensure stable services and / or the speedy restoration of the same in affected areas.
"You are hereby directed to ensure that there is a sufficient number of technical and support personnel and standby generators with extra fuel, tools, and spare equipment in the areas forecast to be affected by tropical depression “Gardo” and the super typhoon ‘Henry'," Cordoba said.
The NTC has also directed the telecommunications firms to fast-track repairs and restoration of telecommunication services in areas that will be affected by weather disturbances and to deploy “Libreng Tawag and Libreng Charging” stations in key areas.
"You are also reminded to coordinate with the LGUs and observe strict health protocols to avoid transmission of coronavirus disease (COVID-19)," he added.
In its 5 PM weather bulletin, state weather bureau PAGASA said ST Henry has slightly weakened as it begins to decelerate to the Philippine Sea.
Henry was last seen at 400 km East Northeast of Itbayat, Batanes. It is moving south southwestward at 15 km/h with maximum sustained winds of 185 km/h near the center, gustiness of up to 230 km/h, and central pressure of 925 hPa.
