The National Security Council (NSC) classified the recent threats against President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. as serious matters of national security and stated that they should be validated.
"We shall be closely coordinating with law enforcement and intelligence agencies to investigate the nature of the threat, the possible perpetrators, and their motives," the NSC said in an official statement on Sunday.
Furthermore, the NSC reiterated its commitment to defending the country's democratic institutions and processes, which the President embodies.
The NSC then urged the Filipino people to remain calm and confident, assuring them that the security sector will ensure the President's safety and consistently uphold the Constitution, democratic institutions, and the chain of command.
They also emphasized that the safety of the President is a non-partisan matter, with the NSC standing united in its commitment to uphold the integrity of the office and the democratic institutions that govern the nation.
The statement came in response to recent remarks by Vice President Sara Duterte, in which she claimed to have hired someone to assassinate President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., First Lady Liza Marcos, and House Speaker Martin Romualdez, should she herself be killed.
Meanwhile, the Philippine National Police (PNP) urged the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) to probe the recent statements made by Duterte, stressing that the matter is of national importance.
