While other local government units (LGU) declared a state of calamity due to extreme heat caused by El Niño, President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. does not see the necessity for a nationwide state of calamity declaration.
In a statement, Marcos ensured that the government will discuss the matter at the regional level following the different heat indexes happening in each provinces.
The President explained that they are handling the local states of calamity, which the LGUs declared, as it is not a one-size-fits-all matter for a nationwide state of calamity declaration.
Due to a lack of water, several provinces have already declared a state of calamity as well as the impact of El Niño in their areas.
As such, Marcos said that the government has already been working on measures to resolve the concern during the dry season, like the building of dams and the development of irrigation systems.
