No direct assault charges will be filed against Honeylet Avanceña, the common-law wife of former President Rodrigo Duterte, the Philippine National Police (PNP) said.

In a report by RH 52 Edniel Parrosa, PNP spokesperson PBGen. Jean Fajardo confirmed it would not push through with filing criminal charges against Avanceña.

This was after the hurt personnel expressed she did not want to file charges against the latter. Moreover, the Special Action Force (SAF) personnel accepted that what happened to her was part of her job.

“Personal decision po ng pulis na huwag na pong magsampa ng kaso at ang reason niya ay kasama ‘yon sa hazard po ng kanyang trabaho. Kaya okay lang at magpapanggaling lang daw po siya at back to work na po siya,” Fajardo explained.

On Thursday, Fajardo said in a press conference that one of their personnel got hurt after Avanceña struck her phone onto a policewoman’s forehead. She was later rushed to the hospital and sustained a big lump in the area. Shortly after, the video from the incident was released to the public.

The PNP spokesperson pointed out that none of their personnel attempted to hurt the former president’s youngest child, Veronica “Kitty” Duterte, in contrast to what the latter claimed. In a panel discussion with the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG), the Department of Justice (DOJ), and the PNP, Fajardo stated they maintained maximum tolerance despite the tensions when the arrest took place.

The injured SAF personnel will be given a medal of commendation following the incident.
