The National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) announced that Luzon Grid will be under yellow alert on Thursday, May 30.
Based on its 8 a.m. advisory, the NGCP said the yellow alert will take effect from 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM and 6:00 PM to 10:00 PM.
NGCP said Luzon grid's available capacity is 13,591 megawatts with a peak demand of 12,478 megawatts.
Two plants have been on forced outage since 2023, three between January and March 2024, eleven between April and May 2024 while eight are running on derated capacities, for a total of 3,154.3 megawatts unavailable to the grid.
Higher generation capacity due to additional forecasted solar power (around 200MW) and HVDC import from Visayas has been seen as a factor that contributed to the raising of the yellow alert.
Meanwhile, NGCP said, "The Visayas and Mindanao grids are under normal conditions."
A yellow alert is issued when the operating margin is insufficient to meet the transmission grid’s contingency requirement.
