The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) said that there is no tsunami threat to the Philippines after the strong earthquake struck off Papua New Guinea on Tuesday, Nov. 28.

According to PHIVOLCS'report, magnitude 6.6 earthquake hit near the north of Papua New Guinea at a depth of 44 kilometers.

The earthquake was felt at 5:47 a.m.

"No destructive tsunami threat exists based on available data. This is for information purposes only and there is no tsunami threat to the Philippines from this earthquake," PHILVOCS said.

"No action required," it added.
