NDRRMC: 'Agaton' casualties climb to 172; 110 missing

The reported death toll due to Tropical Storm Agaton climbed to 172, according to the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC), while the number of missing persons also increased to 110.

In NDRRMC's latest disaster report, Eastern Visayas accounted for the highest number of casualties with 156 reported, followed by Western Visayas with 11, Davao Region with three, and then Central Visayas with two.

Eastern Visayas also has the highest number of missing persons with 104 people still reported missing. The region id followed by Western Visayas with five, and then Davao Region with one.

According to the NDRRMC, Tropical Storm Agaton affected over 583,994 families or 2,015,643 people from 2,419 barangays across nine regions.

It displaced over 395,920 people, with 909 individuals still remaining inside evacuation centers.

Damage to agriculture, infrastructure

Agaton's damage to agriculture increased to over P249.8 million, according to the NDRRMC's report, with 7,625 hectares of land affected.

In terms of infrastructure, the NDRRMC estimated P6.95 million worth of damage for a total of 45 infrastructures affected.

For houses, a total of 10,393 homes were damaged, with 9,723 partially affected and 670 leveled because of the Tropical Storm. NDRRMC estimated the damage to an approximate P709,500.

Tropical Storm Agaton weakened into a low pressure area last Tuesday night, before completely dissipating on Wednesday, according to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration.
