The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management (NDRRMC) on Tuesday reported that 156 people were dead, 275 were injured, and 37 others were still missing due to the onslaught of Typhoon Odette in the Visayas and Mindanao.
In its latest update, the NDRRMC said only nine deaths have been validated, including two each in Guimaras and Bohol, and one each in Iloilo, Negros Occidental, Bukidnon, Misamis Occidental, and Misamis Oriental.
It also noted that the majority of the fatalities listed were from Bohol and Cebu province with 68 and 54, respectively.
Meanwhile, the NDRRMC said 275 people were reportedly injured in areas in Cebu, Bohol, Negros Oriental, Bukidnon, Misamis Oriental, and Butuan City. Two of the injuries have been validated.
In an interview, NDRRMC spokesperson Mark Timbal said that they are coordinating with the Philippine National Police (PNP) to verify the organization's tally of 375 deaths.
For its part, the PNP said its data is still subject to validation by the Office of Civil Defense, and the Interior and Social Welfare departments.
"All PNP units handling these data exercise due diligence and care to preclude possibilities of redundant or omitted [entries] that may compromise the accuracy of the information," they said.
