The Manila International Airport Authority (MIAA) ordered the temporary closure of runways and taxiways at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) following the 6.3 earthquake that jolted Calatagan, Batangas and nearby areas including Metro Manila on Thursday morning.
In an advisory, MIAA said its MIAA Ground Safety Units are presently doing cursory inspection to check any damage to the pavements "to ensure safety of landing and take-off of aircraft."
The MIAA said flight schedules at NAIA may possibily be affected due to the runway closure.
"We seek the understanding of the public for possible effects to flight schedules due to the runway closure," it said.
Meanwhile, MIAA said departure and arrival operations inside the NAIA terminals continues, and inspections are likewise being conducted.
A magnitude 6.2 earthquake rocked the municipality of Calatagan, Batangas and in different parts of Metro Manila as well as neighboring provinces, according to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS).
The Phivolcs then raised the earthquake magnitude to 6.3 from the initial 6.2.
