The Metro Rail Transit (MRT) and Philippine National Railways (PNR) halted their operation after encountering some rail problems on Wednesday morning.
In an advisory posted on Facebook, the MRT-3 management said the abnormal signaling system had caused the temporary suspension of its train operation at around 5:12 am.
The incident particularly occurred along Shaw Blvd. Station.
In a report by RH Christian Maño, the MRT suspension had resulted in long lines of passengers, particularly in EDSA-Taft Station.
MRT-3 Director for Operation Oscar Bongon said there was a “slight” lack of updates, hence it took a while for intervention.
He said there were 3,000 passengers affected due to the technical glitch.
The MRT-3 resumed its full and normal operations at 6:58 am.
Meanwhile, the PNR management also announced that a derailment incident occurred near Magsaysay Crossing in Sta. Mesa, Manila in the morning.
“Ito ay matapos lumambot ang lupa sa riles sa may Magsaysay Crossing malapit sa Sta. Mesa Station na sanhi ng Bagyong Paeng at ilang araw na pag-ulan,” the management said in a statement shared on Twitter.
The PNR management said that it immediately carried out re-railment intervention by placing ballasts on the affected tracks.
Six trips were affected including four trips to Alabang, Bicutan, and Biñan, while two trips to Tutuban, it said.
At least 500 passengers were affected by the incident.
The PNR resumed its full and normal operations at 8 am.
