Due to persistent heavy rainfall, the Department of Transportation (DOTr) has announced the implementation of free rides on all trains on Monday, July 21.
The free rides on MRT-3, LRT-1 and 2 began at 12 noon, the agency said in an advisory.
“Prayoridad ng Department of Transportation ang kaligtasan ng mga pasahero at tiyaking mabilis at ligtas silang makakauwi sa kanilang bahay, sa kabila ng malakas na pag-ulan at pagbaha sa ilang mga lugar sa Metro Manila,” DOTr said.
(The Department of Transportation’s priority is the safety of its passengers and ensuring their swift and safe return home in spite of the downspout and flooding in various areas in Metro Manila.)
The initiative was carried out in keeping with President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr.’s directive to provide free transport aboard all trains.
According to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA), the low-pressure area (LPA) detected within the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) has a “medium” chance of developing into a tropical depression within the next 24 hours.
