A gun ban is currently in effect in Manila from 12:01 a.m. on April 6 to 11:59 p.m. on April 7 in order to ensure safety during the Black Nazarene motorcade.
According to MPD District Director Andre Dizon, the strict suspension of Permits to Carry Firearms Outside of Residence is necessary for the public's protection.
Dizon urges law enforcement officials to use persuasion instead of violence when dealing with the public.
"One of the priorities of our men and women on the ground is to strictly enforce these policies. I urge all elements to use the power of persuasion in dealing with the public to avoid the unnecessary use of violence," he said.
The Black Nazarene motorcade, which is part of the Holy Week celebration in the country, will take place on Good Friday, April 7, around Quiapo in Manila.
