Following the death of a third-year Chemical Engineering student from Adamson University, whose remains were discovered in Imus, Cavite on Tuesday, a mother of a 20-year-old marine engineering from the University of Cebu (UC) appealed for justice, claiming that her son also died during hazing rites in December 19, 2022.

Leny Baguio, in a press conference organized by the Public Attorneys Office (PAO), detailed that her son, Ronnel, received medical treatment in a hospital on December 17 after he participated in initiation rites led by the Tau Gamma Phi fraternity on December 10 last year.

She went on to say that the only thing the cops did was file a blotter and conceal what happened.

"Mensahe ko po sa mga school na may fraternity sa kanila. Nagmamakaawa po ako sa inyo na maaaring 'wag na kayong magpapasok ng fraternity,' Baguio said while being too emotional recalling her son's death.

"Sobrang sakit pong mawalan ng anak. Nag-iisang anak ko lang po 'yon, walang katumbas," she added.

For the time being, the PAO has taken action by requesting a formal investigation into Ronnel's death, promising to cooperate and assist the police as well as the Baguio family during the investigation.

Meanwhile, Cavite police have identified the individuals responsible for John Matthew Salilig's death.

Six of the suspects, including the fraternity chapter's leader, have already been arrested, and charges for anti-hazing violations have been filed against them with the Department of Justice.

A witness/suspect who admitted to taking part in the initiation rites as a member of the organization revealed the circumstances surrounding Salilig's death.
