The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) on Wednesday ordered the temporary suspension of roadworks and wide sales in shopping malls in Metro Manila, starting from August 17 until September 10.
In a statement, MMDA said the order is part of the preparations for the highly-anticipated FIBA Basketball World Cup 2023 that will take place in Philippine Arena in Bulacan from August 25 to September 10.

"Road works (reblocking, utility works, pipe laying, road upgrading, excavation works) in Metro Manila are temporarily suspended effective midnight of August 17 (Thursday) up to midnight night of September 10 (Sunday)," the agency said.
Below are areas that are expected to adhere to the order:
- EDSA Monumento to SM MOA
- Kalayaan Avenue, C5 Road to EDSA
- Along Diokno Boulevard
- P. Ocampo St., Taft Avenue to Roxas Boulevard
- Roxas Boulevard, NIA Road to UN Avenue
- Along Meralco Avenue
- Oritigas Avenue, EDSA to C5 Road
- EDSA North Avenue to Agham Road
The said suspension order is enclosed in MMDA's newly-issued Memorandum Circular No. 7, s. 2023.
Last Friday, the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) started the conduct of overlay and road repair activities along the ESDA Carousel Bus lane in preparation also for the FIBA World Cup 2023.
On Tuesday, the MMDA reported that 16 out of the 18 road segments are once again accessible after the maintenance work.
The remaining two areas on EDSA are expected to be completed by Wednesday, ahead of the target deadline of Thursday, August 10.
