The Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) and Moro National Liberation Front (MNLF) have formally endorsed the presidential candidacy of Vice President Leni Robredo and the vice-presidential bid of Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte.
The two groups announced their decision to support the two in a joint statement signed by MILF chairman Al Haj Murad Ebrahim and MNLF chairman Muslimin Sema and was released on Saturday, May 7.
"The two organizations have agreed to support the presidential candidate with a clear platform of governance and commitment to the peace process and the full implementation of all signed agreements during and beyond the current transition period,” the statement read.
Earlier, the MILF and its political party, the United Bangsamoro Justice Party (UBJP) announced their endorsement of Robredo last April 23, her birthday.
The MILF and MNLF, in their letter, also acknowledged the consequence of their endorsement of Robredo and Duterte, who belong to rival political factions.
"Both Fronts are aware of the political consequences of this declaration, especially in consideration of the extended transition period for the establishment of the Bangsamoro Government," the groups added.
Robredo is running alongside Senator Francis 'Kiko' Pangilinan as her vice president, while Duterte-Carpio is the running mate of presidential aspirant Ferdinand 'Bongbong' Marcos Jr.
